Tensile testing is a method used to determine physical properties of materials. Specimens are subjected to increasing loads applied at a constant displacement rate or strain rate. A relatively slow rate is used to determine Young’s modulus and proof stresses followed by a more rapid rate to obtain ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and finally achieve fracture (elongation).
SMaRT incorporates a suite of dedicated electric screw tensile testing machines all with elevated temperature capability (up to 900°C). We have a range of extensometer including drop leg systems for mounting on ‘pipped’ specimens, high temperature
side mounted strain gauged extensometers with
ceramic arms (12-25mm gauge lengths), as well
as clip on extensometer for ambient testing
(12-50mm gauge lengths).
